Current situation of fire protection technology of external wall thermal insulation system at home and abroad

The research and attention of the fire protection technology of the external wall insulation system at home and abroad has gone from the lack of early development to the general concern of the whole industry at present. However, most of the technical standards and the contents mentioned in the product specifications are about the requirements of the combustion performance indicators of the insulation materials, such as the oxygen index and the determination of Class B2 through the flammability test, and there are no specific requirements for the fire protection performance of the insulation system. Although the Code for Fire Protection Design of High-rise Civil Buildings and the Code for Fire Protection Design of Buildings, which are being revised, attempt to include the principle requirements for fire protection of external wall thermal insulation system, there are no fire protection design requirements for external wall thermal insulation system in the currently implemented standards, and there are no provisions for the classification of fire protection performance of different external wall thermal insulation systems and the applicable building height.

Throughout some external wall thermal insulation systems promoted and applied in the market, there are generally the following fire hazards: First, the thin plastering system of organic thermal insulation board has strict restrictions on its scope of use in some countries due to fire performance requirements, but there is no domestic standard for this. This kind of system without fire protection structure is still used in some high-rise buildings even more than 170 meters, and the existing fire risk should be highly valued by relevant departments. Second, there are many projects in China that apply organic insulation board thin plastering mesh cloth to paste face tiles. The danger of this process is that the thickness of protective layer will increase after the face tiles are pasted. In case of fire, the fire prevention performance of the face tile system in the early stage is better than that of the paint finish system. If the fire continues, not only the toxic gas and flame generated by the burning of the organic insulation board will bring great danger to the escape, At the same time, the thermal shrinkage deformation caused by the heating of the organic insulation board and the overheating and fusing of the mesh cloth will lead to the falling of the face brick, which will bring potential danger to the escape personnel and rescue personnel. Third, the current practice of pasting or filling organic thermal insulation materials in public buildings without fire prevention and isolation measures is widespread. Generally, the organic thermal insulation material is exposed on the inside of the curtain wall in the external thermal insulation method of this kind of exterior wall. The large cavity between the organic thermal insulation board and the curtain wall and the small cavity between the thermal insulation board and the wall are easy to form the chimney effect to accelerate the fire spread speed, making the consequences of the fire more serious.
